10 of the Best Smartphones in the Market Right Now

The phone universe is probably the most fierce battlegrounds out there, with top dogs like Apple and Samsung constantly trying to outclass each other with the latest and smartest handsets.

So buying a phone can be a tricky decision most of the time. With so many amazing phones to choose from, finding the best phones in 2021 can be seriously tough.

The best smartphones are said to cut down stress in busy work life. They have become a high priority in our lives and their craze and obsession are increasing with each passing day.

Without a phone, there’s a feeling of imperfection and missing out on the important stuff. That is why smartphone brands are growing at a rate of knots day by day.

But picking the best one is often a matter of degrees or preferences. Not everyone looks for the same smartphone features.

Some fancy Apple’s iMessage and FaceTime, so that means sticking with phones running iOS 14, while others are more into infinite customizations and Google Assistant, which is available in Android 11.

There are price considerations, too, so I’ve factored all that in and compiled a list of top ten creative phones that should help with your personal life, productivity, work and everything in between.

So without further ado, let’s dive right in.

1. Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max

The new iPhone 12 Pro Max is understandably expensive, but it is the biggest, heaviest, most powerful, and most feature-rich iPhone Apple has produced so far.

It features a powerful A14 Bionic processor, a professional-standard multiple rear camera setup, 5G and a magnetic MagSafe feature that allows it to connect to other mobile accessories.

The new iPhone 12 Pro Max is the only member of Series 12 to pack the new and improved triple-camera on the back. That is how a proper upgrade should be done — by updating every aspect possible, not just the design.

Images are clearer and more visible on the larger display, you can see more of a web page or image in daily use — and as a movie-watching machine, it’s the best iPhone ever.

All of this is wrapped up in Apple’s tried and tested minimal design, powered by the smooth and slick iOS 14. If you can handle its larger size then you’ll be more than happy with Apple’s latest and greatest handset.

2. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G

If you are not concerned about the size and the price, the best Android phone you can buy right now is the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra does everything you need it to do. Its big, bright, bold, beautiful 6.8-inch screen will dazzle you while watching your favourite content.

It’s also got a great QHD AMOLED display, a solid built, powerful camera system with best-in-class zoom, improved fingerprint sensor, butter-smooth interface, more-than-capable Snapdragon chipset, and best battery life of any Galaxy S.

Samsung updated the design of the S21 Ultra, with a metal rail that curves naturally into the camera bump on the back. It is the best-looking big phone you can get right now.

It’s difficult to find fault with the Galaxy S21 Ultra if you can get past its high price and hefty frame. With fewer shortcomings than possibly any flagship phone on the market, Samsung is once again back on top.

3. Google Pixel 5

Google Pixel 5

Last year, Google took a different approach with the Pixel lineup. They’ve focused on providing a great user experience without maxing out the specs on the processor or the screen.

The Google Pixel 5 isn’t a phone that blows you away with fancy multiple lenses. It keeps things simple with a 12.2MP main camera and a 16MP ultra-wide one, with no dedicated zoom lens.

The Pixel 5 also has a much larger battery with wireless reverse charging, 128GB of base storage, and a new ultrawide lens, and, of course, it sports 5G connectivity.

Google has designed the Pixel 5 to connect to both sub-6GHz low- and mid-band 5G networks, as well as millimetre-wave ones, meaning that it supports the full gamut of 5G service no matter which carrier you take it to.

If you want to keep up with the latest Android features for the next few years and aren’t fussed about night or zoom photography, this could very well be the best handset for you.

4. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

If you’re looking for a classy phone to go from morning to night with heavy use and last through it all, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the one to get.

It has a massive 4,500mAh battery that keeps its enormous 6.9-inch screen going as long as you need it to. It’s one of the best handset money can buy for creative people looking to scribble, draw, make notes and be productive on the move.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra also boasts a huge 6.9-inch display with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, a sharp 108MP camera with laser autofocus and a more responsive S Pen.

Samsung has made its most elegant looking phone yet with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The squared-off edges combined with the sophisticated Mystic Bronze colour give this handset a corner office vibe.

If you’re going to drop over a grand on a new smartphone, you might as well spend a couple of hundred more dollars or pounds and get the very best.

5. OnePlus 9

OnePlus 9

The OnePlus 9 is the step-down model from the OnePlus 9 Pro, which is itself an excellent phone. But you don’t give up too much by opting for the 9, and you save a ton of money.

Like the 9 Pro, it offers great performance with a Snapdragon 888 processor, fast 65W wired charging, and something that will appeal especially to the landscape photographers out there: a great ultrawide camera.

The OnePlus 9 is the latest flagship, alongside the OnePlus 9 Pro, from a brand that, despite shifting its phone strategy to compete directly with other premium handsets, had until now kept coming up short in one category: cameras.

The OnePlus 9 is the first attempt to right the ship, and the improvements are noticeable, with better colour fidelity and improved low-light performance.

The digital zoom has also been improved, while there are some fun new tricks like the macro-simulating close-range effect on the ultra-wide camera. The sensor behind the OnePlus 9’s ultrawide camera is physically larger than most and offers a healthy 50-megapixel resolution.

Ultimately, the OnePlus 9 provides great performance and battery life for its price, while shoring up its camera offering, and it all makes for a serious-value package.

6. Apple iPhone 12 Mini

Apple iPhone 12 Mini

There’s really only one reason to buy an iPhone 12 mini, and it’s an important one: if you want a phone that’s easier to use in one hand or put into a small pocket.

This is a smartphone for those who prefer a more subtle and discreet design, where pocket space is at a premium and you’d rather not pull a thumb muscle every time you attempt to write and send a text one-handed.

Though it’s much smaller in size than the latest iPhones, its 5.4-inch screen is still big enough for messaging, email, browsing, apps, video, and games, and if you’re coming from an iPhone 6 / 7 / 8, it will feel quite spacious.

Amazingly, the 12 Mini’s pocketability doesn’t come at the expense of camera hardware. In fact, the 12 Mini has the same wide, ultrawide and selfie cameras found on the iPhone 12.

They capture excellent photos and video and consistently deliver terrific images. The Mini can even record videos up to 4K 60 frames per second and up to 4K 30 fps in Dolby Vision.

It is smooth and speedy, camera quality is great and picture and sound performance are both excellent for the money. The battery life takes a small hit, but that doesn’t really detract from this hugely talented tiny iPhone.

7. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the first foldable to feel like the real deal. The design is beautiful with a robust hinge mechanism. It is a quantum leap better than the original Fold.

The front display is a lot bigger, 5G is standard, and the unsightly notch on the inside is gone. Plus, this foldable is more durable than the first Fold. Every time the screen folds in half, it impresses.

The Fold 2 is the screen-bending sequel to the Galaxy Fold 1, with nearly all of the improvements we asked for. Its 6.2-inch Cover Display fixes our chief complaint regarding the first Fold’s bezel-heavy 4.6-inch front.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2’s cameras are not as advanced as what you’ll find on the Galaxy S21 Ultra but if you’re in the market for a foldable phone now, the Z Fold 2 is the best product out there.

The inside display impresses beyond size. Its adaptive 120Hz refresh rate kicks in when you’re playing games or watching movies, offering more fluidity compared to the Galaxy Ford 1.

Talk about the ultimate device for portability. You can use it as a regular phone, open it up and it’s a tablet, computer, Xbox and everything folds up nice and neat and can fit in your pockets.

The design and functionality of the Fold 2 prove that a foldable can be a great daily driver, with the wow factor to boot.

8. Sony Xperia 1 II

The Sony Xperia 1 II

The Sony Xperia 1 II is the Japanese giant’s latest attempt at a full-blown flagship phone to compete with the very best from Apple, and Samsung and a variety of other growing Android competitors.

Sony has cultivated a reputation of technical excellence and as an expert in the realms of both media creation and consumption — thanks to the likes of its superb cameras, its TV and audio products, not to mention the PlayStation brand as a whole.

The Xperia 1 II’s specs are flagship across-the-board with a flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset matched with 8GB RAM, and with that ultra-tall, 4K screen, protected by Gorilla Glass 6, sandwiching a metal frame, the Xperia 1 II is premium on the outside too.

The phone offers the most refined design from the company so far while retaining its signature square look.
The Xperia 1 II successfully delivers the Sony sound: agile, clear, rhythmical. Voices sound close and intimate, but there’s the air around notes and dynamics when required.

There’s also full IP68 water and dust resistance here, as well as a few other flourishes including a creator mode, which guarantees accurate colours incompatible apps.

9. Apple iPhone 12

Apple iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 and 12 Pro mark the beginning of a new generation of iPhone. Support for 5G, a new hardware design and camera improvements are a significant step away from the iPhone X generation of devices.

Not everyone may need the above-and-beyond material design and photo and video capturing capability of the iPhone 12 Pro, but the regular iPhone 12 is the best new iPhone all-around for most buyers.

The iPhone 12 is yet another glass phone with an OLED screen, a couple of cameras, and speedy hardware. In fact, the 1080p OLED screen is probably the iPhone 12’s most attractive feature.

The iPhone 12 has the exact same cameras as the 12 Pro, except for the telephoto camera and lidar. Armed with Apple’s new A14 Bionic chip, the iPhone 12 delivers the best-in-class performance that never wavers.

The A13 Bionic chip in the iPhone 11 series was already faster than Qualcomm’s top-tier 2020 silicon, the Snapdragon 865 Plus, but the A14 extends that gap further still.

I also like Apple’s new MagSafe initiative, which unlocks new potential for accessories and makes for faster and more convenient wireless charging than iPhones of the past.

Of course, I wish Apple shipped a charging adapter inbox with this phone and increased base storage to 128GB. But those annoyances aside, the iPhone 12 is an all-around excellent device that will delight any iPhone user.

10. Motorola Edge Plus

Motorola Edge Plus

The Motorola Edge Plus is the company’s first genuine flagship in years, boasting top specs, a gorgeous display, 5G connectivity and a trio of rear cameras.

The Edge Plus checks all the boxes to be a serious contender against heavyweights from Samsung, Apple, and OnePlus.
The handset has pretty much everything you’d hope for in a premium 5G mobile phone: A Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, a giant battery, an OLED screen with a high refresh rate and multiple rear cameras.

Motorola has created one of the leading all-screen designs. Where its Z series was hindered by thick bezels, the Edge Plus eliminates them almost entirely. There are no bezels along the sides at all.

In terms of cameras, the Motorola Edge Plus delivers on that front as well with a solid camera game and support for great-looking video at up to the super-detailed 6K video resolution.

The best part about the Edge Plus is without a doubt that massive, 5,000mAh battery cell inside it that keeps the lights on when most other flagship phones are out of juice. Battery life on the Edge Plus is insane.

Motorola took features found on other top-of-the-line Android phones, put its own Moto spin on them and built them all into one of the best Android phones today.
